She describes the conflict without mentioning the real reason (in my opinion) for NCLB: Money for certain publishers, ie McGraw-Hill. This is like discussion US motives in Iraq without mentioning oil.
You would think an adminstration official basically admitting the goal of NCLB was to destroy public education would be something Democrats would jump on...unless they benefit also from the failure of schools to educate instead of condition allegiance to the corporate state!
Ward's comment warrants huge consideration. Who is benefiting?
We have to ask this question!
We are the government, not the other way around. We must send a huge message to Congress about our concerns. Contact your representatives. This is MOST important. Spread the word to other citizens.
It would be interesting to know "who" in the department she thought wanted to blow public education up a bit. She didn't have any problem naming Paige and herself on the "good side." How many more of the good ol' boys could there be who wanted to privatize? Surely she remembers their names. Was it the same bunch who gave us the failed programs and policies of NCLB's golden child, Reading First?
